 New head football coach/athletic director Cory Spivey is a man with a plan for the 2008-09 Junction Eagles. Last Saturday, the Eagles scrimmaged the San Saba Armadillos as a tune-up for the upcoming season. This week, on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., the junior varsity and then varsity Eagles will host the Brady Bulldogs for another preseason test. The Eagles Booster Club is cooking and welcomes everyone to come by for a burger and sides. |

At the August 14 meeting of the Housing Authority-Junction (HAJ), Executive Director Clara Kemp informed board members that she had been contacted by an agent with the Housing and Urban Development Office of the Inspector General on July 21. The agent investigator requested additional information and documents regarding the Audit Review of the local housing authority performed earlier this year by Washington-based HUD auditors. That 34-page audit review report was the reason for the request. |

The JISD Board of Trustees met in regular session on August 13 in the Middle School Library. The pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags and the invocation were led by board member Bob Chapman. |

 The Junction Rotary and Lions clubs have moved the new recycle trailer to the corner of Main and Tenth in order to provide easier access. The new trailer was built, painted and donated to the service clubs by Sam Herring. |

As the local community embarks upon a Sesquicentennial celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of the creation of Kimble County, it is well to reflect upon the man for whom the county was named. George Chester Kimble was born March 6, 1803, and at the age of twenty-four, came from New York to Texas, where he received one of the land grants awarded to settlers in a fledgling area. With a partner, Almeron Dickerson, Kimble owned and operated a hat factory in the community of Gonzales, a town established by Green Dewitt in 1825. |

On August 13, the City of Junction held a preconstruction meeting on the new main water storage tank to be built at the northwest corner of the intersection of Oak and 5th Streets. The contractor for this project is Natgun Corporation and the City’s engineer is HDR, Inc., Austin. |
