Mrs. Tempie Boone McLendon Reynolds, age 92, of Junction, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at Kimble Hospital following a lengthy illness. Tempie was born in Kimble County on November 26, 1911, to J.W. and Mary Boone. She was raised on the banks of the South Llano River along with her five brothers and three sisters. She attended Junction schools where she played basketball, being selected team captain for her junior and senior years. Tempie was selected the first May Queen for Kimble County, a tradition that lasted for many years. Following graduation, she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock for a time before marrying Mitchell McLendon on May 25, 1932, in Junction at the Fannie Dupuay Church. Three years later they began their family, with first Edgar Mitchell, Jr., then Monna and then Marsha being born to their union. Tempie and Mitchell ranched on the Flying “M”, and she also helped her husband operate The Junction Eagle, which they owned. She was active with her children, participating in the PTA and other school activities. She was a charter member of the Cactus Study Club. On September 3, 1961, Tempie’s husband Mitchell died from a sudden illness. She went back to school at the University of Texas for a time, and was a substitute teacher. In December 1965, Tempie married Fred Reynolds. Together they ranched on their land and on property they leased, raising Charolais cattle. In 1992, Tempie lost Fred to cancer, and she lived her remaining years in their house on the river. Tempie loved to fish and hunt, and she spent virtually all of her life in Kimble County and on the river doing just that, passing her knowledge and skill on to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A wake was held Saturday, March 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Graham Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Tim Graham and Neel Etheredge officiating.
