Petra Abilez

Petra Abilez, age 81, of Junction, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Petra was born May 13,1922, in Seguin. She married Andres Abilez, Sr. on August 26, 1938, in Junction. Petra and Andy were married for sixty-four years and nine months, making their home in Junction and raising a family of nine children.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Graham Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Cook officiating. Burial followed in the Little Mexico Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Benny Ybarra, Phillip Ybarra, Dwayne Abilez, Aaron Abilez, Michael Chavez and Jamie Garcia. Honorary pallbearers were Isaias Ybarra, Gary Ybarra, Oscar J. Abilez, John Paul Chavez, Donnie Chavez, Cesario J. Martinez and Gerardo Lopez.
Survivors include her husband, Andres Abilez, Sr. of Junction; four sons, Andy Abilez, Jr. and Oscar Abilez, both of Junction, Leonard Abilez of Madisonville and Freddy Abilez of Humble; five daughters, Maria Ybarra and Oneria Chavez, both of Crowley, Alice Lopez of Junction, Velia Garcia of Arlington and Celia Herandez of Spring; a brother, Santos Perez of Ft. Worth; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Frances Alberta
Wootan Nelson

Frances Alberta Wootan Nelson, 93, passed away June 7, 2003, in the Menard Manor. Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 10, at 10 a.m. in Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard with Brother Mike Riley officiating.
Alberta was born November 2, 1909, in Mason County to Thomas Jefferson and Lilly Mae Eaton Wootan. She taught school in Menard and Kimble County briefly before moving to Wharton. There she met and married Claude Nelson.
She taught in Wharton County public schools for 14 years and at Wharton County Junior College for 18 years. While teaching at the college she helped establish and direct the noted Wharton Co. Jr. College Starlet drill team. She retired in 1970. She and her husband then moved to Menard in 1978.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and one sister.
She is survived by two sisters, Dell Yvonne Parker of Junction and Mozelle Benton of Menard; four sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to charities.
