Wednesday's Internet Edition, August 20, 2008.
More than 70 volunteer actors, wearing bright, period costumes, will portray the story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The all-volunteer cast and crew are comprised of people from various denominations and all facets of the community: bankers, nurses, carpenters, housewives, etc. These individuals have dedicated countless hours of their time to keep this tradition alive. In addition to the local community actors, there are narrators, grounds keepers, lighting specialists, sound technicians, and a director who work behind the scenes to bring the production to life. Traditionally, pageant participants prefer anonymity, encouraging viewers to focus on the Biblical characters and on the goal of bringing renewed faith to all who attend the presentation. The Easter Pageant relies on the support of local organizations. The Boy Scouts assist with parking and handing out programs on the night of the pageant. The City of Junction has provided a generous donation each year from tourism funds (hotel/motel tax) for advertising and equipment expenses. The Junction Eagle personnel have distributed press releases and ads to newspapers in surrounding communities, and have donated seven weeks of advertising in the Eagle. The Chamber of Com-merce provides information to anyone planning to visit the Junction area. Employees of Pedernales Electric Cooperative upgraded electrical service at the Pageant grounds that had been deteriorating. There is no charge for admission. However, donations to help cover the costs of maintaining the amphitheater, props and costumes are accepted during intermission. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs or plan to sit in their vehicles and experience this presentation of Jesus Christ’s last days on Earth. Thousands of people have viewed the reenactment; many return year after year. All are welcome. |
