International kite event held in Junction

The 12th Junction Kite Retreat, hosted by Texas Tech University Center at Junction, is scheduled May 26-29. Kite enthusiasts attend workshops which demonstrate various aspects of kite building and design.
Kite flyers come in all ages from 2 to 80 years old. Myriad professions are also represented among the kite makers and flyers, including; doctors, college professors, engineers, librarians, nurses, restaurant owners, and graphic designers. Lectures are presented by experienced kite builders and flying demonstrations are scheduled.
A most popular event, over the years, is the flying demonstration to be held Sunday, May 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to come at this time, with their lawn chairs, and watch as kites fill the sky above the Texas Tech University Center flying field. Anyone who has an interest in kites can participate in the workshops. To find out about registering for the Kite Retreat contact Judy Kingery (915) 692-5927 or e-mail her at jgkingery@aol.com.
